Historic participation of surfing in the Costa Rican National Games 2026!

2026 will be a historic year for surfing in Costa Rica. For the first time in the history of the Costa Rican National Sports Games, surfing will be included as an exhibition sport, an incredible opportunity to showcase the talent and passion for waves that exists in our country.
When and where?
The 42nd National Sports Games, Limón Province 2026, will be held from January 12th to 24th. Surfing, as a demonstration sport, will begin on Friday, January 23rd at Cocles Beach in Talamanca, where athletes from across the country will gather to compete and celebrate the sport of riding the waves.

We are proud to announce that the Sandpiper Surf Academy team will be representing the Santa Cruz canton, a community with a long tradition and deep passion for surfing. This group of athletes has received significant support from the Municipality of Santa Cruz, which has recognized the effort and achievements of our surfers and their coach.
In addition, the team's coach will be Juan Carlos "Flaco" Naranjo, a prominent coach and trainer with years of experience in competitive surfing, who has contributed to the development of local talent for a long time and is a key figure in the growth of our young athletes.

A giant step for surfing in Costa Rica
The inclusion of surfing as an exhibition sport in the National Games is a significant achievement for the entire Costa Rican surfing community, representing recognition of the efforts of athletes, coaches, and academies who have worked diligently to promote this sport throughout the country.
This event will be a platform for more people to fall in love with surfing and for our athletes to continue growing, learning, and taking the name of Santa Cruz and Costa Rica ever higher.
